Judge Arnold Fraiman founded the Florida Rowing Center in 1985 after he retired from the New York State Supreme Court. The center moved to Lake Wellington shortly after. In 2001, Judge Fraiman retired again. Four scullers devoted to the sport purchased the center and took over daily operations. Now the largest winter sculling school, the Florida Rowing Center is the second oldest sculling school in North America.
Florida Rowing Center leases the boathouse and waterfront area from the Village of Wellington with an agreement to operate on the 1.5-mile lake. Our Stillwater launches are the only gasoline-powered boats allowed on the protected, residential lake.
